Milira won a songing contest at the legendary Apollo Theater which led to a recording contract with the Motown distributed Apollo record label. Although a young singer in her twenties, Milira was influenced by jazz greats like Sarah Vaughn; her warm vocals and scatting ability attest to the fact.
